Manifesting the future of PDF, Liquid Mode delivers a breakthrough reading experience that enables a much easier way to read documents on mobile. Consuming content on mobile has long been a painful experience — especially if a document is long and wordy. Assessments Using Technology Grades 7-12 (Part 1)
Pre-service teachers from University of Maine Farmington will share their research, ideas, and prototypes of how technology can support learning in middle/secondary English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. They have designed a unit in their content area using the Understanding by Design model. The performance task of the unit gives the learners an opportunity to demonstrate their understandings in a real-world context utilizing technology in a transformative way. These future teachers will share an overview of their unit as well as prototypes of their unit performance task and two other technology-based assessments. This is an opportunity to see a variety of web-based technologies and how they can be used for summative and formative assessment. We have two presentation time slots; half the students will present at this one, the other half at the other time slot, so content is different at each. There is no sequence to the two presentations; participants at either presentation will have access to the documentation for all of the students’ units in both presentations.

Interpreting RISE Results For Online and InPerson Learners During COVID19
What should we consider as we look at end-of-year RISE results in 2021? How similar were the learning experiences for In-Person and Online students? How many students were placed on quarantine or moved to remote learning for a significant period time? To what extent has the stress, isolation and health concerns of COVID-19 impacted student learning? How can we balance out all these factors as we look at the RISE test results for our classes or school? This presentation will explore these factors as we prepare to understand end-of-year RISE results. The goal of the session will be to develop a general process to understand results. Participants will be encouraged to offer thoughts and ideas throughout the session.

If you are interested in 1) leadership opportunities for teachers without having to leave the classroom, 2) looking for ways to refresh and rejuvenate your love for teaching 3) and/or you want to find new ways to advocate for your profession, this fellowship might be right for you! High-Frequency Word Fluency: Adaptive Sight Word Worksheets
For early-grade teachers who want to better monitor student progress in high-frequency-word fluency, Sara.ai Worksheets are printable, offline assignments that intelligently probe and document sight word fluency. Unlike static HFW lists and activities, graded Sara.ai Worksheets automatically update student profiles and make progress visible on a teacher dashboard.

Additionally, to provide emergent readers with a regular practice of fluent reading, adaptive-learning algorithms track students’ word fluency and populate individualized worksheets with sentences containing only two of fewer non-fluent words. These sentences are drawn from a growing library of sentences which contain primarily Fry sight words. This library is already over 100,000 words in length, providing endless, non-repetitive, and topically-broad assignments.

Sara.ai Worksheets also allow teachers to get parents involved with simple guidance to help students complete assignments at home, providing parents with the tools to grade assignments as well.

Utah Microcredentials: Recognizing and Rewarding ALL Professional Learning
Educators are self-directed learners, continually developing new skills and finding ways improving their practice. The Utah Microcredentials System recognizes this and provides educators with an opportunity to earn certification and credit for these self-directed efforts.

A microcredential, also known as a badge, is a digital form of certification. It represents an educator’s demonstration of effective and consistent use of the target skill or concept as a part of instructional practice. Any educator in Utah’s public education system can earn microcredentials, including classroom teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, administrators, etc. Earning a microcredential provides the educator with three things: visible recognition of demonstrated competency, leadership opportunities, and USBE credit.

Come learn how to earn microcredentials, how to become a stipended microcredential reviewer, and how to participate in the creation of new microcredentials for other educators to earn!

Assessments Using Technology Grades 7-12 (Part 2)

Can’t we all get along? Interoperability: Ensuring everything works together
With the onslaught of digital learning tools comes the rising need for easy, fast, and equitable access for all, no matter the resource and no matter the device. But how do you ensure seamless access for all when there are dozens, even hundreds of tools being used, and how is this done without sacrificing security and sanity?

Join ClassLink VP Instructional Technology, Nichole Smith and hear how districts have addressed these needs through the use of IDM, secure single sign-on, open tech standards, and by working closely with industry partners. ClassLink solution has both the strategic and tactical tools that every tech leader needs.

Creating an Effective District-Level Survey Strategy Using Qualtrics
Do you get a survey every time you go anywhere or do anything now a days? Even my dentist sends me a survey now after every appointment asking me “how my experience was?” As a citizen do YOU feel over surveyed?

Survey research is and can be a very useful and necessary tool to understand the values, opinions, and insights of our various stakeholders. However, as the saying goes, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. And too much surveying can not only lead to annoyed participants but low-quality data and feedback.

In 2019, USBE contracted with Qualtrics, the world’s most trusted research software, to provide each Utah district with its sophisticated research and survey capabilities. SO, now what?! Join us for this session to talk about how to take advantage of this amazing tool beyond just using it to administer the required USBE surveys (Educator Engagement and Climate Surveys) and start developing a meaningful and intentional district survey strategy. We’ll talk about must do’s, should do’s, and the mistakes we’ve made along the way to save you the headaches of starting from scratch. Learn several survey best practices and leave with a roadmap of how to successfully implement a quality survey research plan in your district so that you can ask better survey questions and have more confidence in the quality of survey data you collect.

Getting Outside: Helping Our Students to Be Naturalists with Technology
In this session we will look at why it is important to get our students outside and learning more often. We will then look at some resources, ideas, and tips to get them outside and learning in all subject areas and for all grade levels. Included in all of this will be ideas of how we can use technology such as Chromebooks and cell phones to supplement our students learning while they are outside. This session will be taught from the perspective of a teacher who has taught for several years and has experience teaching in the outdoors. This will be an interactive, hands-on virtual session that will be conducted outside, weather permitting (if you are able to be outside). Access to a mobile device with the ability to download apps would be beneficial. We will be using strategies that can be used in most backyards, schoolyards, around the house, and other common locations. We will then workshop other resources, ideas, and tips from the participants in the session and the programs they represent so that we can all learn from each other.

Creating a Cross-Curricular Learning Environment with Digital Curriculum
Creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking are all highly adaptable skills every student needs, regardless of what career path they choose. Students that are able to acquire and build these skills from an early age have an advantage when pursuing post-secondary education, and in turn professional careers.

The process of helping students build these skills can be overwhelming, especially when we look at everything that we’re required to teach students as separate, unrelated disciplines. The reality is just the opposite; life isn’t about disconnected silos of information. Math, history, science, and literature are all interdependent of one another in the real world. This leads us to the indispensable value of cross-curricular learning.

Join Kids Discover President & CEO Ted Levine, as he discusses the benefits of creating a culture and environment that promotes cross-curricular learning, and see live examples of how Kids Discover is creating digital tools that make creating cross-curricular lessons easy, and more importantly, exciting for students.

What does digital literacy mean for a student who is learning English? What does digital literacy mean for a student who has not yet learned basic computer skills? As classes move to online formats, how can teachers identify weaknesses in digital literacy for students with budding second language abilities?

In this presentation, strategies will be provided for teachers of English Language Learners (ELLs) to support their digital literacy while also supporting their language acquisition. Concepts to be discussed include: assessing basic technology skills, using technology-specific vocabulary supports, engaging ELLs with online language resources, and modifying online assignments to promote language acquisition. Additionally, a comprehensive list of resources will be provided for teachers to utilize.

Supporting emergent bilinguals can be difficult, especially when differentiating for diverse technological abilities is required; however, the tools and methods proposed through this presentation can ease the burden of teachers with ELLs.

What Leaders at Great Schools Do Better: Tech and Inspiration
NOTE: This recording is in two parts.  Part A can be assessed here or via the "Video Stream" button above.  Part B can be assessed via this link.

Great leaders foster inspiring experiences, build dedicated professionals, and engage in regular storytelling, and tech can strengthen all these efforts.

Many teachers are much, much closer to creating powerfully memorable learning activities for their students than they think. Strong leaders foster not just this excellence in the classroom, but a collaborative professional environment that encourages inspiring stories of learning. In this session, we will look at various ways leaders can use technology to build a better team, to be more effective with their time, and to share the stories of their school with their communities.

Participants will learn to identify small and large successes and convey them to the community, and learn to plan experiences that encourage closer professional collaboration.

Ignite
Making Infographics with Canva - Katarina Pantic & Steven Uribe
When teaching disciplinary literacy, secondary education teachers often need to make their own visuals or visual representations of long texts. Such visuals not have the potential to increase student interest in the subject matter, but by teaching students how to make them, one can teach students the valuable skill of synthesizing complex information in a fun way. In this presentation, we will share resources on how to make infographics with a free software called Canva and share some projects of college (pre-service teachers) and high school students to inspire you to use infographics in your own classroom.

Scientific Modeling with Collaborative Drawing Tools and Screencast Video - Ryan Cain
"As the Utah Science and Engineering Education (SEEd) standards require students to engage in the practice of scientific modeling, collaborative drawing tools provide easy to use platforms to support making scientific reasoning visible. Gone are the days of asking students to copy a poster of the water cycle. Now, science teaching should provide opportunities for children to make sense of relatable scientific phenomena. Instead of teaching a generalized model of the water cycle, students in Ogden might draw a model that includes Pineview Reservoir and Mount Ogden. Collaborative drawing tools like Google Jamboard and Google Drawing provide a common workspace for drawing models that promote discussion and revision.

Will we seek to only develop skills for success on standardized tests or choose to build skills for success that are transferable no matter where life takes them? Will we seek to solely engage students in our curriculum or empower their passions to solve real problems they see in the world around us? I bet you value face-to-face relationships more than ever. How might you make personalized mentoring, feedback, and collaboration central to your classroom? It's ALL a matter of design. Retool how you do school with an upgraded set of values for education as we move from BC to AD (Before Coronavirus to After Disease). Leave UCET with an itch to employ these same empowering principles of design with your students so they can make their learning both more meaningful and memorable.

Ready to Go: Google Applied Digital Skills - Merinda Davis
Google Education has developed Applied Digital Skills ready to use resources and lessons. Learn how to access and explore how to apply these resources in your classroom. You and your students will learn tips and tricks for using Google Apps while applying it to projects and activities.

Real World Ready - Ashtin Johnson
Are you lacking in engaging and relevant content? Are you wanting to take your students learning and your teaching practices to the next Level. Then this presentation is for you. I have created a content, interest student drive program. Students can take classes and courses that best fit their personal interests. Courses are designed to be self paced, which means students choose how quickly they move through course material. Hear students who are highly motivated in developing College and Career readiness skills such as critical thinking, self regulation, skilled communication and real world problem solving can take their education to the next level.

Bring CS to Life with the Finch Robot - Even Remotely!
In this session we will introduce the brand new Finch Robot 2.0 and feature the robots in a highly-interactive playground where participants can live program them in real-time, using Remote Robot technology.

Remote Robots are real robots that can be programmed via the internet by anyone from anywhere. They offer a novel, equitable way to engage students in block-based coding and robotics, even when students are remote. They can also be used to demonstrate Internet of Things concepts, and to facilitate collaborative programming activities between different schools.

Explore programming robots in our playground in a virtual, but still highly interactive way, while learning how you can bring Computer Science to life with physical computing.

Agenda:
15 minutes: Introduction to the Finch robot and to remote robots.
40 minutes: Use remote robots technology to program six robots in the BirdBrain Technologies livestream learning studio. We will work through several programming activities, including robot dance, drawing shapes, and avoiding obstacles.
5 minutes: Wrap-up & final questions.

Participants will:
(1) Learn the technical details of how remote robots work and gain an understanding of how to set up remote Finch Robots in their home or classroom.
(2) Learn how to use remote robots in both synchronous and asynchronous online learning to engage students in coding and robotics.

Program a real robot today, and join us for a virtual conference workshop that is firmly planted in the physical world.

Less Teaching, More Feedback
Providing students with specific and timely feedback is an important part of ensuring student success. In a remote learning situation, feedback becomes absolutely essential. Grant Wiggins goes beyond asking teachers to provide feedback. He implores teachers to spend less time teaching and more time providing effective feedback. He also provides evidence that less teaching and more feedback yields better results.

This session will highlight the need to spend more time providing feedback in order to help students achieve desired learning outcomes. We will consider the remote teaching and learning environment and examine how teachers can capitalize on this environment to provide effective feedback that will ultimately produce greater learning. We will consider what effective feedback "looks like" and how teachers can build a remote learning environment that focuses more on feedback and less on teaching.

Teaching Math in Canvas with Derivita
Created by the cofounder of Canvas, Devlin Daley, Derivita is a first of its kind math platform with a proprietary computer algebra system. Built for educators, Derivita provides an immense library of questions from Algebra to Calculus. Student submissions are entirely auto-graded and students are provided with immediate, meaningful feedback. Derivita can be used with any textbook and can be accessed on all types of devices - laptops, tablets, and even smartphones.

Derivita’s seamless integration in Canvas is user-friendly and setup only takes minutes. Grades and due dates are automatically synced to the Canvas gradebook and calendar. There is no separate account required and students are able to complete all of their homework, quizzes, and exams without ever leaving their Canvas course.

During hybrid and remote learning, 80% of our instructors told us that student engagement is their highest priority challenge and that they are often unable to assess how students are doing in class. That’s where SpotCheck comes in. With a single click of your mouse, you can use SpotCheck to encourage participation and quickly determine knowledge gaps.

In this presentation, Devlin Daley will demonstrate how Derivita seamlessly integrates with Canvas. We will show you how to easily create math homework, quizzes, and exams all from within your Canvas course. You will also get a sneak peek at SpotCheck and explore ways to increase participation and assess your students in real-time even over Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. Bad Meetings Have to End: Re-thinking Staff Gatherings & Meetings in a Virtual Setting
Has the COVID-19 Pandemic caused you to “re-think” group activities such as meetings, professional development opportunities, and culture building events with staff? In a year where we have had to be certain to mitigate the risk of exposure “getting together” for any purpose has been challenging. Although the technology for virtual meetings has been available for years, education has not heavily utilized that technology until NOW. Ironically, the promise of virtual meetings is increased efficiency, collaboration, and reduced costs, yet for many of us, that hasn’t happened! We haven’t found the keys to effective virtual meetings. In this presentation, I will share with you tips and ideas that will help you unlock the potential of virtual meetings. These tips will help you increase engagement and participation, build better culture and teams for virtual connections, complete collaborative work, make decisions virtually, and finally get the results you are keep chasing. You will leave with some “try it tomorrow” ideas that will help you model the kinds of virtual interactions that we hope for our teachers with their students.

Revolutionizing Keyboarding Education
The Learning Lights Keyboard is the BIGGEST advancement in keyboarding education in over a decade! Come see our new show/hide computer keyboard designed by teachers, made for student touch type mastery and learn some new ideas for teaching keyboarding in the classroom.

KeyMaster's Learning Lights Keyboard is a fun and innovative way to encourage students to key by touch. The press of a button "hides" key lettering, taking away the temptation to look at one's fingers while typing. Restore full key visibility for everyday activities. Students will master their keyboarding technique faster and better with a KeyMaster keyboard!

Keyboarding skills are more important than ever with 77% of all careers requiring some level of computer proficiency. In today's tech driven world, advanced computer skills are essential in preparing students for the careers of tomorrow. Proficient touch typing frees up cognitive working memory, allowing learners to focus on advanced tasks such as coding, programming, and composing rather than the process of typing.

We hope that you find great success in educating young learners and that our products can enhance and accelerate your keyboarding programs.

UTAH-NDPA: Meet Utah's New National Data Privacy Agreement
Utah law requires certain privacy protections be included when entering agreements with third parties. The keywords here are “entering agreements”. This includes when you're clicking “I agree” to terms of service or a privacy policy, not just when you are procuring or contracting with a vendor. The next thing that triggers the requirement of including these privacy provisions is when you are sharing PII or Personally Identifiable Information.

USBE has developed an LEA level Data Privacy Agreement (DPA) in collaboration with LEAs, their attorneys, and our Assistant AG, that meets all FERPA and Utah state privacy laws. LEAs are encouraged to use this agreement as the de facto privacy agreement for public education in Utah. Vendors may additionally choose to sign the General Offer of Privacy Terms, Exhibit E, making the Utah NDPA essentially a piggy-backable or umbrella agreement, requiring only the signature of the additional LEA to make it binding and eliminating any further privacy negotiations for that particular resource. This is not a replacement for your regular negotiation, and other legal process within your district. Exhibit E can help with streamlining the RFP/bid processes.

Build Meaningful VR STEM Content: Let's Create on Inspirit!
Attendees will design their own VR STEM experience on Inspirit (www.inspirit.academy). We will start by asking them to identify a gap in their STEM curriculum. They will then brainstorm ideas for how VR will solve that problem. We will end the session by having each attendee build their own VR experience and presenting their experiences to each other.

We will incorporate our research at the Stanford VHIL Lab ([vhil.stanford.edu](http://vhil.stanford.edu/)) and at the Stanford Graduate School of Education on developing technologies that support universal access to immersive learning content in this session. We focus on studying the educational and learning affordances of high-fidelity immersive VR, and very often in our field experiments, we see VR being used a few times in the classroom. We will teach participants how to align with existing curricula and systems, and existing beliefs about the technology, to support more meaningful and long-term integration. We will also cover what it takes to bridge the best practices of academic research in VR with practical considerations for making this technology work in a real-world setting (both virtual and in-person).
